Saimoe Tournament 2013

Postby chronomeister on Fri Aug 23, 2013 7:11 am

It's that time of year again. Get's your brackets on; it's Mrach Madness the Men's NCAA Basketball Tourney Saimoe Tournament 2013! Vote for your waifu's; be bitter when they lose.

Q: WFT chrono? WTF is this Saimoe shit?
A: Saimoe is a yearly event where a bunch of people looking for something to kill time decided to vote for the most "moe" anime character from the past year. Personally this is just great troll material and I can't pass up the opportunity for troll material.

Q: W(here)TF do you find this shit?
A: The official site is here: http://acst13.saimoe.me/ If you're not really into all those cryptic symbols here's an English page: http://www.animesaimoe.org/ That English also provides previous results and today's match-ups.

Q: This shit is cash. How do I participate?
A: English guide here: http://www.animesaimoe.org/votingguide.html I don't bother voting cause I'm a lazy fuck, but you can knock yourself out.

Alright because this is going to get very boring if I'm just going to post results here so how about bout if I raise the stakes. I'm going to turn this into a game. You make predictions. I'll score your prediction. Person at the end with the highest point total wins. What do you win? I'm going to put my money on the line and I'm putting $10 in for each person who becomes active. $8 of the $10 will go to the winner. The remaining $2 will go straight to SPAMM as a donation. For now I will put a cap of $150. Barring any personal financial disaster, this value will not go down. If more than 15 people join I'll see about bumping this value up. Note I said active, this means have a prediction > 50% of the days of the week. If the fuzz shows up and says I can't do this, I'll turn this into a non-monetary game and have a ride with the winner and give them some gas money *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*.

Rules: Bets open at 6pm the 3 days before the match (exception you may bet on Monday matches starting at 6pm Thursday along with Sunday's match but I won't post odds until Friday; this is mainly for people not on the internet over the weekend), bets close at 10am the day before the match, I will use the SPAMM forum time to determine if bet is in on time. All times CDT. If you want to change your bet please edit your original post and make note of your edit and do it before the deadline. If I determine someone is trying to subvert these rules there will be a warning on first offense, immediate forfeiture of participation on second offense. My money so decisions by me are final and absolute. The timings may change as we near the end as there will not be as much time to place bets.

Because the betting times may be confusing stated that way, here's the times for each day:
Monday match-up: Open at 6pm Friday; close at 10am Sunday (actually opens at 6pm Thursday)
Tuesday match-up: Open at 6pm Saturday; close at 10am Monday
Wednesday match-up: Open at 6pm Sunday; close at 10am Tuesday
Thursday match-up: Open at 6pm Monday; close at 10am Wednesday
Friday match-up: Open at 6pm Tuesday; close at 10am Thursday
Saturday match-up: Open at 6pm Wednesday; close at 10am Friday
Sunday match-up: Open at 6pm Thursday; close at 10am Saturday

Scoring: Points awarded = Vote count for character * odds * place modifier, where odds = leader's previous vote count / character's previous vote count and place modifier = -0.1 * (place - 11) [1st = 1, 2nd = .9, 3rd = .8, 4th = .7]. Because I'm an honest bookkeeper leader will always have 1:1 odds. Someone with 2 should end up with half the votes of the leader, etc. I'll post the odds when you can start voting. I'll keep a running average so if new people want to join they can start at the average and still have a chance. I'll keep it open until the end of the loser's brackets. If you forget to vote min(daily point standings) + 1/6 * range(daily point standings) will be added to your total.

I will try to post who you can start voting for ~7pm each day as well as results of that day's match up. We'll see how these rules roll and I might tweak a few things if I see something not working.

CURRENT POOL: $60 ($50 to the winner)

Standings:
Oci 4961
Chrono 4800
Bootkiller 4704
Creed 4268
Echotech 4231

Starting point 4352

OK now that I'm not rushing out the door time to do a proper write up.

[Original first post]

It could be sleep deprivation on why I'm making a topic instead of a shoutbox post but I don't care. I need more posts.

Today's the first round of voting. And I'm rather late so only a couple of hours left of voting too. Proly have results when I get back from work.

I haven't been keeping up as much as previous years so I may be more rusty on my predictions than usual. My predictions for today are Yuka Hanaki, Fate Testarossa, Emilia Justina, and Sumire Hirose, though I could be totally off for any of them really. As for general trends last year there was a lot of Saki, this year may be the same but I might expect some new comers from Vividred Operation, Love Live, and possibly still Saki. We'll just have to see.
[End first post]

Q&A finish. srsbiz time. Looks like I was right on with Fate and Emilia. That first round Saki didn't do too hot and WFT was I thinking with Yuka. Iwai did way better and Mikoto win the Saki split.
Final tally:

1st 140 (40.82%) Iwai Mushanokouji @ Dansai Bunri No Crime Edge
2nd 72 (20.99%) Shizuku Mizutani @ Tonari No Kaibutsu-kun
3rd 68 (19.83%) Yuka Hanaki @ Natsuiro Kiseki
4th 63 (18.37%) Yuuko Kanoe @ Dusk Maiden Of Amnesia

1st 162 (44.02%) Fate Testarossa @ Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
2nd 147 (39.95%) Snow Black @ Accel World
3rd 59 (16.03%) Mayaka Ibara @ Hyouka

1st 160 (42.22%) Emilia Justina @ Hataraku Maou-sama!
2nd 142 (37.47%) Himeko Tsuruta @ Saki
3rd 77 (20.32%) Reika Aoki @ Smile Pretty Cure!

1st 183 (49.59%) Mikoto Urabe @ Mysterious Girlfriend X
2nd 133 (36.04%) Sumire Hirose @ Saki
3rd 53 (14.36%) Sera Eguchi @ Saki

Today's matchups:
Mami Tomoe vs. Wakaba Saegusa vs. Koneko Toujou
Mafuyu Shiina vs. Eri Ayase vs. Kanata Futaki
Eucliwood Hellscythe vs. Ririchiyo Shirakiin vs. Sasami Tsukuyomi
Yayoi Kise vs. Sasha Braus vs. Chihaya Ayase

My money's on Mami, Sasami, Kanata, Chihiya.

Also who called me out on making multiple posts in a row? Cause this is the thread I'm going to do it in.

chrono, you should update the first post so people new to the thread know whats going on now. btw Awesome idea and i want to contribute to the donation to spamm part after we figure out the final number of participants. right now im unsure how much i want to put into it but we're gonna leave it at $2 per person (up to a soon to be determined cap) for now.

anyways my salty bets:

Monday:
Spoiler:
Akane Akaza, Marii, Akane Isshiki, Kumin Tsuyuri. i wanted to put kuro down but i feel like having izumi there will mess up her votes

Tuesday:
Spoiler:

You don't have to put anything into the pool if you don't want to. I'm just feeling generous. If you want to do a flat rate that's fine too. I'm probably going to tweak the scoring a little bit. I like the base score but I will probably put in a penalty/bonus based on results position. Also edited first two posts to organize.

Added place modifier to try to reward people picking winners over point boosting.

Results from Sunday:
Spoiler:
A03
1st 240 (55.43%) Yozora Mikazuki @ Boku Wa Tomodachi Ga Sukunai
2nd 117 (27.02%) Kukuru Anrakutei @ Joshiraku
3rd 76 (17.55%) Ringo Sugisaki @ Seitokai No Ichizon

A06
1st 249 (51.23%) Yuu Matsumi @ Saki
2nd 195 (40.12%) Kurumi Tokisaki @ Date A Live
3rd 42 (8.64%) Io Nitta @ Devil Survivor 2

A09
1st 195 (44.62%) Yui Yuigahama @ Yahari Ore No Seishun Love Comedy Wa Machigatteiru
2nd 144 (32.95%) Nanami Aoyama @ Sakurasou No Pet Na Kanojo
3rd 98 (22.43%) THE GREATEST ANIME EVER AND SHOULD BE SHOWN EVERY SEMESTER, KANON Nakagawa @ The World God Only Knows

A12
1st 238 (46.03%) Toki Onjouji @ Saki
2nd 221 (42.75%) Frenda Seivelun @ A Certain Magical Index
3rd 58 (11.22%) Leviathan @ Zettai Bouei Leviathan

Example points:
Spoiler:
Yozora Mikazuki 240 points
Kukuru Anrakutei 151.4117592 points
Ringo Sugisaki 96.461556 points
Yuu Matsumi 249 points
Kurumi Tokisaki 269.904804 points
Io Nitta 90.0590292 points
Yui Yuigahama 195 points
Nanami Aoyama 151.4057472 points
Kаnon Nakagawa 210.1377348 points
Toki Onjouji 238 points
Frenda Seivelun 246.0467256 points
Leviathan 84.226092 points

Points would be:
Creed 907.3572768
Chrono 942.904804
Average 740.5511493

Before I added the place modifier you had me beat Creed. Can't let that happen. Feels great when you make the rules. But honestly when someone who picked 1 first and 3 second places beats someone who picked 3 first and 1 second I feel this is a justified change. Though the long-shot THE GREATEST ANIME EVER AND SHOULD BE SHOWN EVERY SEMESTER, KANON did better than expected, this does not surprise me and feel the points given are justified. Thanks for helping me test. Doesn't matter for now as these will be discarded. I'll see how the place modifier and average goes and I might adjust accordingly. I want to see the average tomorrow before I make the change.

Monday bets are now closed. Will stop by later for Wednesday's bets.
