Alien Swarm

What I originally saw as a free hat for TF2 has turned into one of my most played current games. Has anyone else experienced this awesomeness? Also, here's an article on how to play it in first person:

I tried this already. It is cool, but the overhead view is necessary.

I'm enjoying the game more than the UT2004 mod that the game originally was.

It would certainly seem to be the case. It has a browser for selecting campaigns, so more campaigns will probably be added by Valve or someone else.

I heard that the game comes with a built-in tile-based map editor that can be accessed from the console.

They actually discovered stuff expected for HL2: Ep 3 hidden in the tile-based map editor.

Valve likes to release games for free, then sell a more polished version of the game if it becomes popular.

See: Team Fortress Classic, Day of Defeat, Counterstrike, Ricochet

Ricochet doesn't need any polishing.

Day of Defeat and Counterstrike were originally mods that were not created by Valve. Team Fortress Classic was a port/update of the original Quake mod. Ricochet was originally going to have frequent free content updates similar to TF2, but that never happened as the game was terrible a masterpiece.

Alien Swarm is more like Team Fortress Classic in that it is a port/update of a previous mod.

Was that really necessary, Niehaus?
